Provide each label/adhesive type, including aged and wet/chilled examples where relevant. Define the permitted residual label and adhesive area.
A returnable-bottle project must control the incoming bottle population as well as the washer. Sorting, labels, unknown residue, damage and final inspection determine whether a bottle is suitable for reuse.
The process below is a planning framework. The producer’s risk assessment and quality system determine which controls and tests are required.

A trial should include typical returns and the difficult boundary samples the process is expected to accept. Freshly emptied, newly labelled bottles can understate the challenge. Record label age, storage condition, previous contents, visible damage and any pre-treatment.

Include dried, settled or odorous residues that remain within the project’s accepted incoming specification. Unknown hazardous contents should be rejected under a safe site procedure.

Send the accepted bottle family, return source, label/adhesive types, residue history, target output and required release condition.
